Lightning over the lake

11Jul08

Ah yes, ’tis storm season. Someone remind my why Canon didn’t integrate a remote shutter release into their xxD series, then remind me to shell out the $20 or whatever for the cheap-o eBay solution. Anyways, here’re some shots from earlier tonight:

And FYI, stop by my Flickr account some time - there’re some good shots there that never wound up here on CFUCT for whatever reason.

WiSUC: Back In Black

Bonnaroo in photos, part 3

26Jun08

Day 3 of Bonnaroo photos are now posted over at Dane 101. Check it out. Highlights include Iron & Wine’s performance, crowd scenes, Sigur Ros’s set, and Kanye West’s glow-in-the-dark suck-at-sunrise debacle.

Seriously, though. Fuck Kanye West. Here he shows us how CAPS LOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL:

…this Bonnaroo thing is the worst insult I’ve ever had in my life. This is the most offended I’ve ever been… this is the maddest I ever will be.  I’m typing so fucking hard I might break my fucking Mac book Air!!!!!!!!   Call me any name you want…. arrogant, conceited, narcissistic, racist, metro, fag whatever you can think of….  BUT NEVER SAY I DIDN’T GIVE MY ALL!   NEVER SAY I DIDN’T GIVE MY ALL!

He did not give it his all, unless by “his all” you mean “a ridiculous, half-assed, two hours late, pretentious, epic test of how much bullshit an audience can put up with.”

I HAVE A FUCKING LIGHT SHOW DUMB ASS, IT’S NOT CALLED GLOW IN THE DARK FOR NO REASON SQUID BRAINS!

Brilliant! Anyways, fuck Kanye. Go check out my pictures.

Bonnaroo 2008, part 1

05Jun08

Stop on by over at Dane 101, where I’ve posted the first in a many-part series of stories about the Madison-to-Bonnaroo crowd. I’ll be covering Bonnaroo 2008 for Dane 101 this year, profiling the Madisonians who make the yearly trek down south and hopefully posting from the road and from ‘Roo. Stay tuned for more, but for now, get acquainted with Bonnaroo via my write-up of the best damn music festival in the world.

Hey, look what I did tonight

25May08

Oh hell yes, it’s that time of year again. It’s been since August since I’ve gone out to shoot some lightning (barring that one sunrise in January when several tornados ripped through, but I didn’t get any worthwhile lightning photos from that shoot). Here’s lucky frame number 7 from shooting tonight:

No Photoshoppery except to add the watermark in the corner. I still need to capture that iconic image of lightning over the Capitol. Shots like this over the MMoCA or over Lake Mendota are ridiculously easy compared to the luck you need to balance the ambient with the flash for a “lighting over the Capitol” shot.
